Tiger vs The World

“Hooks and Slices” will bring you our view on whats happening in the golf world.

It’s time to get excited about the PGA Tour. This weekend at the WGC CA Championship the best field of the year is waiting to tee it up at the Blue Monster. All the PGA Tour money leaders, all the FedEx Cup leaders, all the World Golf Ranking leaders are here to give this tournament the feel of a “major’. Tiger is back, again, and many are expecting him to exert is dominance on a course he seems to own. There are many golfers that are playing well enough to take down Tiger if his game is off the slightest bit. Since this is stroke play, one thing is guaranteed; there will be more than four golfers playing on Sunday. I bet the boys at NBC are thrilled. These are the guys that will make this week worth watching.

· The “Old Big Four”Tiger is Tiger, enough said. Philly Mick, has one win with no fairways. The Big Easy, driving great, needs to make some putts. Vijay, still not the old VJ, but he can switch it on quicker then anyone.

· The Foreign Invasion FavoritesCamilo Villegas, Spiderman looking for first 1st win of the year…Rory McIlroy, the Celtic Tiger is hoping the “Luck of the Irish” hits before St. Patty’s day…Luke Donald, playing great, but has a wrist problem…Sergio, he could be World Number One if he wins and Tiger finishes 28th, number one with no majors??? Come on! …Mr. Cool, Miguel Angel Jimenez, the coolest guy in golf, looks like James Bond out there, pure cool…Westwood and Clarke, both crowd favorites that are playing well.

· Young American StudsAnthony Kim still has jet lag…Boo Weekly, looking for a chance to ride that bull again…Hunter Mahan, 3 top 25’s, hasn’t put it together yet…Sean O’Hair, 5 for 5 in cuts made, 3 top tens, hot as hell and winning soon, but please Sean, eat something!…Nick Watney stays under the radar, but has a win and is playing great.

· Slumps of the YearPadraig Harrington, 2 missed cuts and a 72.11 scoring average, Ouch! Paddy must be saving it for the Open and PGA…Retief Goosen a tie for third is his best this year.

· 2009 Studs of the YearGeoff Ogilvy and Kenny Perry, these guys are one and two on the Money list and FedEx points…..Ogilvy has two wins, looks unstoppable and is defending his CA Championship title, he is the best golfer that gets the least press and he likes it that way. .….Kenny Perry 6 of 6 cuts made, 3 top tens and another win this year, has him continuing his great run from last year. He’s forty eight, God Bless Him!!!

There is another tournament this week, the Puerto Rico Open, and there are plenty of great golf stories going on there also. Erik Compton, Rocco Mediate, Tadd Fujikawa, Jeff Klauk and Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey and more are playing there. All these guys have their own great stories or unique personalities that make this tournament worth a look.

  1. Although I am one of Tiger’s biggest fans and regard him as the best golfer in my lifetime, I have two words to share with everyone regarding his “return” to the game: ENOUGH ALREADY! Yes he’s an amazing player but could there possibly be a more boring personality. Golf is in dire need of some viewer attention and putting a little fun and life into the sport would, in my humble opinion, serve the game well.

Everyone knows that Tiger gets too much coverage, but he moves the needle. There are some great personalities on tour, they just don’t get the same coverage i.e. Boo, Poulter, Jimenez
