This Week It’s The US Women’s Open

by Jeff Skinner

It’s major week once again.   We don’t have to wait until next week at St. Andrews for The Open Championship.  We have the biggest major of the year for the women starting up on Thursday.  The US Women’s Open has an even more extraordinary air about it as it takes place on one of the most historic courses in the United States.  Oakmont Country Club is no stranger to major championships.  Angel Cabrera won the 2007 US Open here and the women have been here before also.  In 1992 Patty Sheehan beat Juli Inkster in an 18 hole playoff  for The US Women’s Open title.  This will be the eighteenth major championship held at Oakmont.

My money is on Cristie Kerr, she’s playing her best golf and is so motivated to get a second US Open title.  One thing for sure, Lorena Ochoa knows what a major win means but she won’t be winning this week.
