Paul Goydos, Darren Clarke & Brittany Lang Lead on a Great Day of Golf

Chip Shots…

It was an interesting day in the golf world yesterday.  Here are some of the events that made it an exciting day in golf.

Paul Goydos shoots a miraculous 59.  It doesn’t get any better than that on any pro tour.

Darren Clarke has put on his full court press to make Monty’s Ryder Cup team and he leads the Scottish Open by a stroke.

We got to see Phil being Phil again in Scotland.  Remember when he hit his ball off the television cables at Pebble Beach?  Well he pulled a bonehead move at the 14th hole of the Scottish Open.  His ball was buried in thick knee high grass and he took forever to find it.  The smart play was to take an unplayable but sometimes Phil thinks with his club and not his brain.  After a healthy swing he buried his ball deeper in the rough.  It took another swing to get out of the stuff and he took double bogey for the hole.  Sometimes you have to take your medicine Phil.

American Brittany Lang was able to survive a brutal day at Oakmont and has a one stroke lead at The US Women’s Open.  She was able to find five birdies and managed only three bogeys on a very hot day over a tough course.

The feel good story of the day had to be amateur Kelli Shean holding the lead at Oakmont for most of the day and finishing tied for second.  The University of Arkansas senior had her boyfriend on her bag and played a steady round of golf.  Maybe no one has told her how hard this Oakmont course is.
