Jack Nicklaus Speaks at The Honda Classic

by Jeff Skinner

For those of us old enough to remember the commercial for the defunct investment firm E.F. Hutton, we can remember their motto, “When E.F. Hutton talks people listen.”  Well, when Jack Nicklaus talks people still listen.  Nicklaus held court at The Honda Classic yesterday and he had a room full of old, hardened scribes eating out of his hand.

He spoke of his historic ’86 Masters and his slumps.  He talked about Tiger’s swing changes and his own changes that he said he was always making to try and get better.  He says he watches more NFL Football than golf, still loves driving up Magnolia Lane at Augusta and prefers his role of Grandpa to anything else in his life right now.  In fact he had just come from “Grandparents Day” at one of his grandchildren’s schools before the press conference.

Just like he had all his professional life, Nicklaus gave honest, thoughtful and insightful answers to each and every question.  Click here for the entire press conference (it’s worth it) and sit back and listen to the greatest golfer and sportsman in history. As long as Jack wants to talk, we all will listen.

Here’s a short clip with Jack relating some practical jokes from his friend John Montgomery.
