The Masters, Finally

by Jeff Skinner

All right, it’s here, finally, The Masters. Now we get to watch the best players in the world instead of just talking about them.  Hope you got your  picks in.  They always say there are only 20 or 30 guys that can really win The Masters.  Maybe true, maybe not, but I bet few people selected Trevor Immelman or Zach Johnson in their pools a few years back.  So here are a few dozen guys that have a chance at Augusta this year and some that don’t.

In no particular order, you may consider, or may not, what the heck:  KJ Choi, plays well here and a grinder…..Paul Casey, has the game and the confidence now……Luke Donald, playing well lately and can manage his way around here…..Ernie Els, if any of the older guys deserve a Green jacket it’s Ernie…..Dustin Johnson, long enough to own this place…..Miguel Angel Jimenez, OK so yes, he’s my favorite but wouldn’t it be great to see him puffin away in that green jacket and Billy Payne stumbling over his name…..Matt Kuchar, he could find the magic he had here as an amateur…..Martin Laird, don’t be shocked if he’s there …..Justin Rose, another fine Englishman ready to do his best Faldo imitation…..Steve Stricker, it’s time he finally nailed one down…..Lee Westwood, he hangs around on Sunday so often he has to win one, maybe by default like Sir Nick…..Tiger Woods, yes it would be crazy but he does have four Masters…..Rickie Fowler, he needs to win on tour first?  Who says so…..Bubba Watson, like all the longballers he has a good chance here…..Steve Marino, see Rickie Fowler……Graeme McDowell, US Open Champ, Ryder Cup hero, brass balls, he can do it……Retief Goosen, another “oldie” that can win if he putts like we know he can….Geoff Ogilvy, just a hunch, it’s time to back up that US Open win….. Want a wild card, Gary Woodland, want a really wild card, Johnny Vegas, Why Not? That would be fun!…..Ian Poulter, I’d love to see him Tweeting from Butler Cabin.

Three guys I wouldn’t bet on:  Martin Kaymer hasn’t made a cut here yet.  He’s great, but still has to figure Augusta out.  Anthony Kim, I know he is playing better and was third here last year but I don’t think this is his time.  Rory McIlroy, still has the talent but has lost the buzz.

So here is where I put my money where my mouth is.  These are my Majors Pool picks.  This is for informational purposes and should not be used for any illegal purposes and I reserve the right to say ”Damn, I was going to pick him!”

You have to pick Phil Mickelson, his track record here, he’s hot and he’s always the pick here!  Hunter Mahan, playing well, plays Augusta very well and it’s time for a young American to win here.  Nick Watney drives it long and plays very well here, but the difference this year is his putter, he has finally found it.

Take your pick guys…it’s bound to be a great tournament.
