Rickie Fowler Threatens Colonial Record

by Jeff Skinner

David Toms isn’t showing any ill effects from his playoff loss to K.J. Choi at The Players as he finds himself tied for the lead at Colonial.  Rickie Fowler had the round of the day and a course record within his grasp until he got to his last hole of the day.  He was sizzling on his back nine (the front nine) and a birdie on the ninth would have given him a Colonial course record 60.   He was eight under par going into his last hole and then fate stepped in and played a cruel trick on Fowler.  His approach on nine spun back into the water and he missed a bogey putt.  He still ended the day with a great 63 and is one off the lead.  Afterwards he spoke to Michael Collins and had a few laughs too.
