Webb, Freddy and The Cup

by Jeff Skinner

After a weather delay at The Wyndham Championship, North Carolina native Webb Simpson really heated up and surged to a two stroke lead over South Carolina boy Tommy Gainey.  From the 13th to the 17th he went 3-3-3-2-3.  That’s bird, bird, eagle, bird and bird and six under par over five holes on his way to a 29 on his back nine.  Any more wildlife on that nine and he’d be forced to open his own aviary.  Click her for story.

Fred Couples is back and better than ever, or should I say his back is better than ever.  Couples returned to the Champions Tour at The Seniors Players Championship for his second tournament after a two month layoff and a procedure in Germany on his ever troublesome back.  This week he is playing pain free and reaping the rewards.  He leads three time winner John Cook and Peter Senior by one stroke.  Tee times have been moved up to 8:00am EST due to a forecast of rain for the afternoon.  Click here for story.

South Korea’s Na Yeon Choi lead the LPGA’s Safeway Classic by three strokes over American  Stacy Lewis.  Choi shot a two under 69 to keep the lead she earned with an opening round 65.  There is more on the line here for many players than just winning the tournament.  This is the last chance for American players to earn points for this year’s Solheim Cup. Catch the final round today on The Golf Channel, 7:00pm to 9:30pm EST.
