Vegas Baby…Kevin Na Wins in Las Vegas

by Jeff Skinner

After 210 starts on the PGA Tour Kevin Na finally found some luck in Las Vegas as he claimed his first win at The Justin Timberlake Shiners Hospitals for Children Open. Na battled Nick Watney down the stretch but was able to grab a two stroke lead after three straight birdies at 15, 16 and 17.  Na has been close to a win before but never managed to close out a win before yesterday.  In five years on the tour his top finish had been a tie for second at the 2010 Arnold Palmer invitational.

Na made all the shots he needed over the last four holes including a monster 42 foot birdie on 17 to give him a two stroke lead going into eighteen.  “I’m just very excited about my first win,” said Na.”It wasn’t easy. Nick was coming right behind me. It looked like any time he was going to make a move, and I tried the best that I could to stay one step ahead of him. I think the putt on 17 basically sealed the deal for me.”

2011 has been a memorable year for Na: He gets his first win on tour and that certainly wipes out his most notorious moment of the season when he took a 16 on the ninth hole of the Valero Texas Open.  I’m sure this week’s win will ease the pain of that infamous hole.
