Great Stuff in Golf

by Jeff Skinner

Short Shots…

So youngster Tom Lewis wins his first tournament on the European Tour in only his third start.  Not bad for a twenty year old that dropped out of school and just turned pro.  Now with a two year exemption on the Euro Tour and a half a million in the back he can take care of those that took care of him.  Lewis will pay off all the debt his parents incurred to help him chase his dream. Sometimes payback is a good thing.

One of the sweetest perks for winning a major of the thousand or so that major winners earn is a trip to Bermuda for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.  Schwartzel, McIlroy, Clarke and Bradley are teeing it up on the classic Port Royal Golf Course on the cliffs of Bermuda.  Not a bad way to kill some time, drink some brews and earn some funny money for these guys.  Check out the website, especially the video sections with interviews of all the players.

The PGA Tour’s Fall Series couldn’t have had a more exciting run.  Tiger Woods, six hole playoff, Webb Simpson and Ben Crane on Sunday and now for the final week of the season Webb Simpson and Luke Donald will square off for the money title.  Donald will try to win and he has to finish at least tied for second to win the title and pair that with his lead on the European Tour to become the first member of both tours to win both titles.  Simpson leads him by $363,029 and may just clinch Player of the Year if he holds on to his lead.  The PGA Tour has done in right as the two will be paired together for the first two rounds. Add that story to all the players trying to get into the top 125 and save their job and you have a great week at Disney.

Seve Ballesteros was one of the most interesting and electrifying personalities in the history of golf.  Now will all get a chance to see his story on the big screen.  A film is being made about Seve and his miraculous rise to the top of the golf world.  Hopefully they’ll be able to convey just what a dynamic player and person Seve was.  (Aussie Golfer’s article.)

Check out Michael Breed and a mic’d up Rory McIlroy as they get ready to shoot some tops for Breed’s the golf Fix.  They both are great.
