Who would have thought that at this time of year Turkey would be the center of the golf world? Really, who would think that Turkey would be involved in professional golf at any time of year. But with Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and six other world class golfers walking the course at the Atalya Golf Club, Turkey has become just that.
In an end of the season, paid for play event with the winner taking home well over a million and the “loser” earning $300,000, this tournament has put Turkey on the map. Couple that with the announcement that the European Tour has done a deal to hold a seven million dollar tournament back here next year and Turkey is now a player in professional golf.
Along with McIlroy and Woods, Charl Schwartzel, Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Webb Simpson, Lee Westwood and Hunter Mahan are doing their best to better each other in a medal/match/knockout format that you need a MIT professor to figure out. You can try and follow the scoring here. In two matches so far Rory has lost both and Woods has one win. Justin Rose and Charl Schwartzel have won both their matches and due to weather the third round has been postponed until tomorrow.
