Winds Wipe Out Tournament of Champions

by Jeff Skinner

So much for the wonderful weather that usually greets the PGA Tour as they open their season at Kapalua.  The wind and rain were so bad that the PGA Tour bit the bullet and cancelled the first round of the Tournament of Champions.

With the wind gusting to 50 mph balls were rolling off the greens and the officials determined that the conditions were unplayable.  Most disappointed player of the day has to be Webb Simpson who somehow managed to make three birdies and get it to three under par after seven holes.  Most relieved player of the day goes to Scott Stallings who took an eight on the third hole and was seven over par after four holes.  Who says there are no snowmen in Hawaii?

The Tour says they will try to play as many holes as possible on Saturday but the weather forecast doesn’t look too promising.  And those poor caddies…they can’t be looking forward to 36 holes over that hilly course.
