Louis Oosthuizen shot a final round 66 to overtake Scott Jamieson and win the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, South Africa. Oosthuizen finished at 16 under par, a single stroke ahead of Jamieson and moved to fourth in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Jamieson who had started the day with a five shot lead, narrowly missed a chip in on the final hole to force a playoff. His final round, even par 72 wasn’t enough to hold his lead from the hard charging Oosthuizen.
The 2010 Open Champion was thrilled to start his season with a victory, “I played very well and hit some great shots, and I’m very happy to start the year like 
this. I somehow like winning my first event of the season, and it’s always good to start in your own country because it feels more relaxed.”
Relaxed is just how Louie looks when he swings. Few golfers have as smooth and controlled a swing as Oosthuizen. Smooth and controlled, sounds like the silky swing of Ernie Els and it’s no accident that Oosthuizen swings like he does: he is a product of the Ernie Els Foundation that has brought so many skilled golfers to worldwide prominence.
This month’s Golf Digest profiles Oosthuizen’s swing and calls it “Almost Perfect.” He is only five foot eleven and 170 pounds but he drives it 300 yards and was 23rd on the PGA Tour in 2012. Oosthuizen says, “I have no idea why I swing the way I do. I just try to get the timing right and all the basic things.”
However he does it, it works and it’s a pleasure to watch.
