The LPGA returns home to the states this week as the women honor the pioneers of the LPGA at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup.  Michael Whan added this tournament in 2011, with no cash purse, when the LPGA was desperate to keep the women playing while he struggled to fill the schedule.  Whan has done an admirable job as this season’s LPGA Tour boasts 28 tournaments.

The ladies will play the next two weeks before taking a week of in their run up to their first major of the season the Kraft Nabisco Championship.Stacy Lewis aa

Stacy Lewis will lead the American contingent in a solid field at the Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix.  Lewis, the 2012 Rolex Player of the Year and third ranked player in the world, will be looking to hunt down defending champion Yani Tseng and continue her march to become world number one.

With Lewis are the other two 2013 LPGA Champions Inbee Park (4) and Jiyai Shin (6) as well as a total of eight of the top ten players in the Rolex Rankings.

In addition to remembering the founders of the LPGA, the tour also pays it forward.  $500,000 of the total purse will be donated to the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program which promotes golf among young female golfers.
