Tiger Wood Reaches 19 Majors, Kind Of

by Jeff Skinner

MastersTiger Woods has reached another milestone in his historic golf career.  Much has been made of Woods’ attempt to reach that magic number of nineteen majors.  Since Tiger came on the scene he has made it his life’s work to reach nineteen majors and pass Jack Nicklaus.  Well today he reached that number, only it wasn’t for total major wins.

Tiger’s failure to win at The 2013 Masters marks the nineteenth consecutive major that Woods has not won.  His last win came at the 2008 US Open and he is stuck on Tiger slumped 2013 Masters 4rdfourteen and today’s final round offered little hope at a come from behind charge to win.

That’s a long time for Tiger to still be searching to get back on the major track.  He said he thought a 65 would win today and he was right.  His 70 today left him at five under and a 65 would have put him ten under and one clear of the Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera.

But it was not to be as Woods failed out of the gate with a meager par at the first par five, the second hole.  He lost a stroke to the leaders there.  With a bogey on the fifth and the seventh his day was done.

It mattered little that he birdied four of his next eight holes.  Even though Jim Nantz and David Feherty were sure he was ready to break out in a back nine charge Woods’ front nine doomed him to another year without a green jacket ceremony.

For Woods to miss another opportunity at Augusta, a course he knows so well and has such a storied history on has to be frustrating.  For Woods to overtake Nicklaus he needs to pad his total with wins at The Masters.  He’ll have to wait until next year to try for another Masters title and the clock is ticking.
