by Jeff Skinner

They say golf is the game of a lifetime and here’s the latest proof.  Japanese veteran golfer Masashi “Jumbo” Ozaki who’s 66 shot a surprising 62 in the first round of the Tsuruya Open on the Japan Tour.  His nine under par put him in the lead after the first round but more amazingly bettered his age by four shots.

jumboJumbo has been playing golf professionally for 44 years and is the Japan Tour’s all time win leader with 94 victories with his last coming 2002.

As crazy as it sounds, Jumbo says he’s not just a “ceremonially golfer,”Shooting my age is not something I try to do,” he told the Kyodo news agency. “But if you can’t shoot six-under or seven-under when you play good golf you don’t belong on the tour.”

His best finish in a major was a T6 at the 1989 U.S. Open and he won the Japan Tour’s money list twelve times.
