Julie Inkster On Track for 2015 LPGA Solheim Cup Captain

by Jeff Skinner

Ron Sirak of Golf World is reporting that the LPGA is about to announce that LPGA veteran Julie Inkster will be the Solheim Cup Captain in 2015.  The 54 year old Inkster is playing her last full time year on the tour and has a close relationship with so many young players.  She’s a great choice for captain as few players have the enthusiasm for the Solheim Cup and even fewer have the resume.

With seven major championships Inkster has played in the most Solheim Cups, nine and holds the mark for most points by an American, 18.5.  Her 6-1-2inkster.cup singles mark speaks to the grit and toughness that she has displayed over the years.

Inkster is universally loved and respected by the women on the LPGA Tour and has a special relationship with many of the younger players as she has played the role of surrogate “mom” for many of them.

The Americans are looking to avenge an 18-10 shellacking by the Europeans last year at The Colorado Golf Club.  It was a seminal moment for the Euros as it was their first victory on American soil.  It looks as if the LPGA is pulling out all the stops to try and regain the cup.
