Stacy Lewis Guns ‘Em Down in Texas

Stacy Lewis came out with guns blazing at the North Texas LPGA Shootout with an opening front nine of five under par 31. Turns out it wasn’t much of a shootout at all as Lewis pulled away from the field and finished with a stellar 64 and a six stroke margin of victory.

Lewis’ 64 was the low round of the day and her second in three days. When you shoot two 64’s within three days chances are you’ll be near the top of the leaderboard. Lewis has had a very good season to date but couldn’t finish any tournament off for the win.

So far in 2014 she played in 9 events, made the cut in each one and had seven top ten finishes, including two seconds, before the victory today.

It may be tough to comprehend that the number one American golfer had been in a victory slump of sorts. This is her first win in sixteen starts with her last coming at the ’13 Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Lewis started the week as the third ranked golfer in the world but her ninth LPGA career win has moved her into second behind Inbee Park.

Lewis’ win continues a great season for American golfers on the LPGA as she joins Jessica Korda, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie as American winners.
