Stacy Lewis Wins in AC, Back to No.1

by Jeff Skinner

Thousands of people head to Atlantic City each year to try their luck in the casinos and spend some time at the beach. Stacy Lewis’ weekend in Atlantic City finished with a Sunday that wasn’t a gamble at all and was as relaxing as a day at the beach. At least she made it look that way.  Stacy lewis shoprite 14 driver

Starting the day with a one shot lead over the resurgent Christina Kim, Lewis pulled away from the field and coasted to a six shot win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Her closest competitors couldn’t mount a charge as Kim carded a one over 72 and Jennifer Johnson did the same.

Lewis’s four under 67 earned her the 10th LPGA victory of her career and put her back into the number one spot in the Rolex World Rankings. Lewis had held it for a month last April but Inbee Park unseated her and has held it for the past 59 weeks.

Lewis had said that while she wanted to get back to number one, winning golf tournaments was her goal and the rest would follow. “It feels great to get the win; that was the goal and it was nice to get it taken care of,” she said. “I just went out there and took care of business.”

Her 2014 season has been stellar: 2 wins, 12 out of 12 cuts made, 8 top tens and 2 runner up finishes.

Lewis’s win continues a very productive season for American golfers on the LPGA Tour. Of the nine different winners on tour this year six are Americans.
