Day says he is “100% healthy, no issues with any part of my body which had been an issue in the past.” But he did acknowledge that his injury could pop up and threaten his game at any time. Day’s thumb injury put him on the sidelines after won the Match Play Championship and he has a new appreciation for the human hand. “It’s amazing how we underestimate our hands” he said as he spoke about going through his rehabilitation.

“I definitely want to win a U.S. Open…it’s a true test of golf and the hardest golf course we play all year.”

The 26 year old said he even though he feels like a seasoned veteran he still “feels pretty young in my career.” The two time PGA Tour winner has a handful of top tens at major championships and this week he is once again poised to win his first major.

Taking over the number one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings from his pal Adam Scott is also on Day’s radar,” I really want to be number one before I am 30.”

He’ll get his next big chance at climbing up the world rankings when he tees it up at 7:18am on Thursday.
