Pinehurst Journal, Day 1

by Jeff Skinner

us open logo 14Consider this post day two of my personal journey to Pinehurst and the U. S. Open Championships. After a hectic day one of an eleven hour drive I finally got to Pinehurst and the media center about 4:00pm.

Today’s press conference schedule is jam packed and I plan on attending the Architecture Forum which includes Mike Davis and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

Today I had a chance meeting with Rand Jerris of the USGA.

Dr. Jerris is the Senior Director of Public Services which encompasses the Green Section, communications, facilities, philanthropic activities, diversity, operation and most avidly the USGA Museum.

I complimented Dr. Jerris on the museum and how it is a hidden gem in Far Hills and he agreed. He said the museum was indeed his passion and we both agreed that any golf fan should spend some time there.

Click here for the USGA Museum’s website, you’ll be hooked.

I also spoke to Golf Digest’s Geoff Shackelford. I do him a disservice limiting him to Golf Digest because he seems to be everywhere lately. He’s spending plenty of time killing it with his buddies on The Golf Channel.
