Weekend Off at The U.S. Open

by Jeff Skinner

us open logo 14The biggest missed cut has to be Masters champ Bubba Watson. The number 3 player in the world was toast on Wednesday when he called the greens “unfriendly” and the natural areas “weeds.” He talked himself right out of the Open.

Jason Dufner struggled to find the fairways and the greens. Duf gets to spend to spend the weekend at home with wife Amanda. That’s doesn’t sound too bad at all.

I figured a straight hitter with a sold short game like Luke Donald would do well here. But it wasn’t to be for the former number one.

Miguel Angel Jimenez was strutting his super cool stuff around Pinehurst and hoping to earn some more Ryder Cup points. One stoke too many sent the Coolest Guy in Golf packing.

Lee Westwood usually plays the U.S. Open well but he had a tough time with the new Pinehurst. He is still searching for that first major and the window is nearly shut.

The tough luck tale of the day has to be Hunter Mahan. Mahan would be playing the weekend except for a two stroke penalty for playing the wrong ball on seventeen. His caddie, to his credit, took all the blame. But Mahan still misses the cut. That’s a tough one.
