Pinehurst Journal Day 6

by Jeff Skinner

Day 6 down here in the Sandbelt started with an early tee time on a course with a similar look to Pinehurst No.2. Whispering Pines Country Club was designed by a disciple of Donald Ross, Ellis Maples and has an old school flavor. “Hard pan rough, sparsely covered with native pine straw and love grass” is the way their website describes and I played from all of it.

I was lucky enough to best big brother, only because he had a bad day and my son’s short game showed signs of neglect. We lunched at the club and had a grand morning.

Once I got out to Pinehurst it was probably the most difficult day to move around the golf course so far this week.

They estimated over 56,000 fans were on site and I think most of them were walking wherever I went. So I spent most of my day in the Media Center and as the day wound down I was front and center for the player’s interviews.

The die-hards in the Media Center have a long day as many are here before eight in the morning and were still going at it when I packed it in a little after nine.
