Phil’s Debut, Toothless Tiger & More

It’s only January but this is a big week in golf as the PGA Tour hits the mainland for the first time in 2015.

Looking to put a winless 2014 behind him Phil Mickelson makes his ’15 debut at the Humana Challenge. Phil has won four times in his first start of the season and would love to add another to that number. It’s also the first time we’ll see him since he took down Captain Tom Watson at the Ryder Cup press conference. This will be an interesting week for sure.

Patrick Reed is back at the Humana Challenge and primed to continue his climb up the World Golf Rankings. His win at the Tournament of Champions two weeks ago gave him four PGA wins in eighteen months. The self proclaimed “Top 5 Golfer” is currently ranked 15th in the OWGR. With his present form he is well on his way to following up his bravado.

Tiger Woods is sporting a toothless smile of late and there is some debate as to what actually happened. His agent says he was struck by a videographer while celebrating Lindsey Vonn’s recent record setting win. But many seem to think that particular tooth had some history. That one tooth was slightly discolored and my son had that pegged that from the get go. We noticed that discoloration after his Thanksgiving fire hydrant episode. Let your imaginations run wild.   Lindsey Vonn

We heard last Saturday of Robert Allenby’s kidnapping and mugging while he was out to dinner in Honolulu. Now, there are conflicting reports from some of the supposed witnesses of the incident. The homeless woman who is credited with helping Allenby now says he wasn’t where he said it occurred but just a few blocks from the wine bar. What the hell?

In the Feel Good File at the Humana is Aussie Jarrod Lyle who has recovered from leukemia not once but twice. He made two cuts in the fall on tour but this is his first ’15 start.

The Golf Channel has added some new faces lately. Lauren Thompson is back on Morning Drive and Paige Mackenzie is a fine addition. Bailey Mosher and Sara Brown among others have been getting plenty of face time on various shows. But if they’re looking for a replacement for Holly Sonders they are spinning their wheels. Sonders was a force on The Golf Channel with her bombshell looks and friendly demeanor. Fox Sports stole her from the Golf Channel but we have yet to see much of her on Fox at all.
