Teaching Pro Takes a Shot at Tiger Woods

Over the weekend a former PGA player let loose on Tiger Woods claiming Woods was going to “surpass Lance Armstrong in infamy.”

I listened to the radio broadcast where Dan Olsen (whoever that is) told the host that Tiger was really serving a suspension from the PGA Tour and that Woods had also been playing a ball that isn’t approved for play.

You can hear the inflammatory interview here.

The first thing I thought was ‘who the hell is Dan Olsen, then, where did he get his information and what does he have against Tiger.’  woods wmo

First off Olsen played on the tour in 2004. He entered 31 events had one top 25, missed 19 cuts and made $135,731. Not much of a career and he isn’t on the tour any longer.  Last year Olsen was a teaching pro in Michigan.

He got his information from what he called a “strong witness…a credible person.” Hmmm so it’s hearsay.

What does he have against Woods? Who knows, but plenty of people like to get their 15 minutes of fame by taking shots at famous people.

Does he think this stunt will boost his profile and maybe he’ll get a few more lessons out of this?

Of course Tiger’s agent, Mark Steinberg issued a statement denying all Olsen’s claims as did the PGA Tour saying “There is no truth whatsoever to these claims.”

Now, Olsen has flip flopped and wants to retract what he said, “I retract the entire interview. My comments were ill-advised. I want to apologize to Nike, the PGA Tour, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and (tour commissioner) Tim Finchem.” Maybe he realized the forces at work here.

Oh, OK Dan now you want to retract what you said. Why say it in the first place? And if it’s true why back down? Why not be the man that outs Tiger? Probably because Dan is looking for his fifteen minutes. He got more than he bargained for.

Now, one thing we learned over the years is that Tiger Woods is full of surprises both on and off the course but this stuff is crazy.

When Tim Rosaforte or John Feinstein reports it I’ll believe it. As far as Olsen’s “credible person” we can bet it’s not Olsen.
