Furyk Ends the Streak, Wins RBC Heritage

Chalk one up for the good guys. Jim Furyk broke his four and a half year winless drought with his come from behind win at the RBC Heritage.

Furyk had started to doubt himself as he suffered through 100 PGA Tour events without a win.

He started the day two shots off the lead and went all out as he knew he needed something special if he was to end his streak that had started right after the biggest win of his career, the 2010 Tour Championship where he also won the FedEx Cup.  furyk rbc

He went out in 30, six birdies, including four straight and by then he was in the lead by a stroke. His lone bogey on the eleventh dropped him into a tie for the lead but he bounced back with birdies on three of the next four holes. That got him to eight under par and when Kevin Kisner sunk his birdie on the 72nd hole off the two went to a playoff.

Kisner was looking for his first ever PGA win but Furyk was ready to drop an overbearing burden.

With birdies by both on the first playoff hole they went back to seventeen. Kisner missed his birdie putt and Furyk dropped his twelve footer and his putter at the same time. He screamed with relief and fist pumped with joy. The streak was over.

Furyk has carved out an unlikely PGA Tour career. He possesses one of the most unorthodox, and criticized swings but has used it to earn seventeen PGA Tour wins, including the 2003 U.S. Open. He’s won the FedEx Cup and the $10 mil that goes with it in 2010 and has played on seven Presidents Cup and nine Ryder Cup Teams.

With those seventeen wins goes an amazing twenty-nine second place finishes and a career total of over $63 million dollars. Furyk is one of the most respected players on tour, by both his fellow players and the media.

He’s truly one of the good guys.
