Chip Shots from The PLAYERS

Jordan Spieth misses the cut. Boy Wonder had a great run while it lasted but it was bound to end sometime. The mano y mano, Rory vs Jordan Death Match will spieth 15 playershave to wait.

Phil Mickelson now has seven missed cuts at The PLAYERS to just three top tens. TPC Sawgrass is one tough course and it had Phil talking to himself,” I was thinking to myself as I was walking around, I can’t believe I’ve actually won here.” Next challenge: Chambers Bay and his white whale.

Paul Casey has to withdraw due to an illness. Thanks for killing my Draftkings lineup.

So Kevin Na and Jerry Kelly are the leaders after day two. It’s not exactly a star-studded leaderboard. But this course is so penal the difference between birdie and “others” is so very slight.

Na seems to always play well at The PLAYERS and he looks to have cured his self described case of the yips.

Jerry Kelly pops up on the leaderboard with regularity. But closing it out is another story. That being said, this is the Wisconsin native’s 20th year on tour and he has 3 wins and over $26 mil in the bank. Not bad for a University of Hartford grad who’s first love was hockey.

Tiger Woods was spraying that ball 30 yards offline on his misses. But he deserves credit for gutting it out and making a clutch birdie at the last to make the cut on the number and live for another day…or two.

Rory McIlroy is just four shots off the lead and he is playing with his B game. He is driving it so well but can’t buy a putt. If that putter warms up on the weekend he’ll be the one to beat.

Shocking missed cuts galore: Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Brooks Koepka, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Lee Westwood, Jimmy Walker, Brandt Snedeker and Jason Day. Did I mention that TPC Sawgrass is one tough course?
