Jinxed by Cover Shoot, Wie Withdraws from Kingsmill

Just about the same time Golf Magazine, the printed version, was hitting our mailboxes Michelle Wie was teeing it up at the LPGA’s Kingsmill Championship.

Wie who continues to be the biggest draw in women’s golf graced the cover of the June issue and she’s featured on eleven pages of this issue.  golf mag wie

First she gives us four tips on how we can rip our driver like she does (yea right) and then she’s the subject of The Golf Magazine Interview with Josh Sens.

Both features are informative and fun. But in a case of what may be a bit of the “Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx” Wie had to withdraw from Kingsmill with a hip injury. Ouch.

She had struggled to an opening round 7 over 78 and then informed the LPGA she had to withdraw and Tweeted her regrets.

Wie isn’t just the most recognizable female golfer on the planet she also one that is finally comfortable with herself and not afraid to try something, almost anything.

From the interview:

Speaking of funny, do you ever feel self-conscious about your hunched-over putting stance?

I don’t care how it looks, as long as I’m making putts. I’m not in the business of looking cool. The truth is, some players have been coming up to me discreetly and saying, “I’ve been trying it at my club, but as soon as someone comes by, I stand up.” I joke that I’ve found the secret, and everyone else is just too scared to try it. And some friends have said, “It’s the first time a putting stance has become a pickup line.”

You also got attention for a video of you twerking while doing a handstand, to celebrate your win. Will we see that move again?

I hope so. I hurt my wrist so I haven’t repeated it. That’s how I’ll know I’m fully healed—when I’m back to twerking.

It will be a shame if Wie’s injury affects her going in to her U.S. Open defense next month. She deserves a chance at “handstand twerking “again.
