A Great Day for Woods…Cheyenne Yes, Tiger Not So Much

It was a tale of two cities for the Woods family today as Cheyenne outshined her uncle Tiger.

In Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Cheyenne Woods carved out a share of the lead at the LPGA’s Manulife LPGA Classic while 380 miles to the south at The Memorial her uncle Tiger hooked and sliced his way to a share of 85th place.  cheyenne woods manulife

Things were a bit different for the Woods today.

LPGA rookie Cheyenne played a near flawless round with eight birdies, an eagle and a lone bogey. Her nine under 63 was ten shots better than her uncle’s 73.

Woods, the LPGA member’s round couldn’t have been more different that Tiger’s. She hit 14 of 14 fairways; he hit just 4 of 14. She found 16 of 18 greens in regulation while he hit just 9.

It’s Cheyenne’s first share of the lead at an LPGA event and Tiger’s T85th position is a spot he is unfortunately becoming more familiar with.

Cheyenne was thrilled with her opening round performance, “It’s great to be in this position I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I’m just going to go out there – it’s a new day – and go into it with the same mindset and just go play golf.”

The Memorial Tournament Presented By Nationwide - Round OneTiger had a two way miss going spraying his tee ball both left and right. He opened with a 40 on his front nine (the back nine) and did battle back a bit by making some putts on his back nine 33.

He wasn’t happy with his day. “I didn’t play very good today at all” he said and in the understatement of the day said, “I can hit it either way; we have to fix it.”

That is if he ever expects to contend again, or at least compete with his niece.
