Historic Win in LLG Open Championship Contest

As Zach Johnson basks in the glow of his Open Championship victory it’s time to celebrate another winner who certainly shares Zach’s enthusiasm for golf on the Old Course.

In another close finish in the Links Life Golf Pick a Winner contest G. Rennie finally broke through for his first win in 2015.  Rennie rode his favorite, Louie Oosthuizen and Grand Slam hopeful, Jordan Spieth to a win over a field of LLG hackers.

In doing so he made a bit of history: he won with a player who missed the cut.  He went way off the board with his Dark Horse pick of Kevin Kisner.  And Kisner lived up to his label: he missed the cut.

The Final Standings:claret-jug3

G. Rennie 396.5

Gordo  390

Lil Skins  388.5

The Greek  387.5

Big Skins  384.5

Big Dick  340.5

Still moaning about his U.S. Open loss, despite selecting the winner (Spieth) and runner up (Oosthuizen) Rennie went with some chalk picking Spieth (108.5) and Louie again (104), Justin Rose (89) and popular choice Rickie Fowler (68.5).  Kisner’s 26.5 points nearly cost Rennie his bragging rights.

Spieth and Fowler were the most popular picks among the LLG knuckleheads with four of us selecting them both.

Gordo finished a very respectable second and was the only one to select actual winner Zach Johnson.  He also earns some kudos for going off the board with Danny Willet who earned a surprising 97.5 points.  But his other off the board pick of Danny Lee (24) cost him a victory.

Lil Skins may have to learn to bet with his head and not his heart as his Man Crush Pick of Miguel Angel Jimenez (24) cost him back to back wins.

The Greek looked to be in fine shape early on as he was the only LLG’er to pick Dustin Johnson who was primed to run away with the Claret Jug.  But as DJ faded so did The Greek’s chances.

I felt great about my front runner picks of Spieth, Louie, Rickie and Scott and even thought my Dark Horse Tiger had a solid chance at St. Andrews.  But Tiger’s missed cut killed me but justified his Dark Horse label.

Big Dick also went down with Tiger’s missed cut and mediocre scores by Rickie, Kuch and Phil left him in the basement.

The PGA Championship is right around the corner so we all won’t have long to wait to take Rennie down.  Let’s see if he’s still riding his dynamic duo of Jordan and Louie.
