Oldie But Goodie…Davis Love Wins at Greensboro

There was plenty of excitement at the Wyndham Championship this week. The traveling circus that is Tiger Woods came to town to play here for the first time in his career, And the locals responded with the largest crowds in the tournament’s history.love

But Woods was upstaged by an old Carolina favorite. Davis Love III took a big swig from the fountain of youth and beat a field of golfers many of which are half his age.

Love came from four shots off the lead to beat Jason Gore(another comeback story himself) by a single stroke for his 21st career PGA Tour win.

At 51 Love became the third oldest PGA Tour winner and jumps into the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Most of Love’s contemporaries are playing on life’ biggest mulligan The Champions Tour but Love chooses to hang with the flatbellies on the regular tour. Love has barely dipped his toes in the Champions Tour with only four starts since he turned fifty.

Love opened with bogey but then got down to serious business playing the next six hoes in five under par for a front nine 31. An eagle on fifteen gave him a 64 and put him in the clubhouse at -17. He then waited about an hour while Gore and the others finished and when Gore couldn’t scratch out another birdie Love had won his third Wyndham Championship.

It was Love’s first PGA win since 2008 and he gets back to The PLAYERS and the Masters.

With back surgery in 2013 and foot surgery earlier this season he began to doubt if he could get it done. He said if he can putt he can win and he proved it today.
