Surprise! A Competitive Presidents Cup

It has been one heck of a year for the PGA Tour and it looks like it will end the season in one of the most unlikely scenarios: a competitive Presidents Cup.

The International and American teams continued to go toe to toe yesterday in a spirited day of exciting golf.  Both the fourball and the foursomes sessions were split with both teams earning two points in each and at the end of the day the U.S. team held on to its narrow one point lead, 9.5 – 8.5.

Louie Oosthuizen and Branden Grace have emerged as the studs of the match compiling a 4-0-1 record as they have teamed to take down the American big guns.  They defeated previously unbeaten J.B. Holmes & Bubba Watson in fourballs and Patrick Reed & Rickie Fowler in foursomes yesterday.

They have carried the International Team this week and have made this a most unusual Presidents Cup.  Usually about this time the Americans are chilling the champagne and the Internationals are talking of moral victories and heroic comebacks.  Not this time, this time it’s a match, a real competitive match.
