The twenty-two year old’s victory continues the grand youth movement on the PGA Tour. Thomas’ good friend Jordan Spieth, also twenty-two is at the forefront of the movement as the tour continues it’s transition out of the “Tiger Era.” He is another one of this young wave of golfers that is taking over professional golf. Spieth and Thomas have been friends since the played junior golf together.

Thomas had a solid 2015 with 7 top tens and 15 top twenty-fives. But victory eluded him last season. He seems to have ratcheted up his game in this new PGA season as he finished T3 two weeks ago at the Frys and closed out the CIMB for the win.

Faced with Adam Scott closing in on him after he carded a sizzling 63 to get in the clubhouse at -25, Thomas needed to bear down.

He was cruising along until a horrid double bogey on the fourteenth hole dropped him to -23. But the youngster played like a demon after that stringing together three consecutive birdies form 15-17 and his five foot par putt at the last kept him one clear of the field and earned him his first PGA Tour win.
