Good Stuff…Really Good Stuff

I love the fact that Donald Trump is finally taking some lumps from golf’s ruling bodies. The PGA Tour announced Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump Visits His Scottish Golf Coursethat they will be looking to move the WGC-Cadillac Championship from Trump Doral and now Insiders are saying the Royal & Ancient has removed Trump Turnberry from the Open Championship Rota.

Trump needs for someone to stand up to his non-stop blabbering and his absolute bigotry. Doral’s re-do by Gil Hanse was great and Turnberry had a history all its own. They’ll be missed. Now if we can just get rid of The Donald.

It was fun watching many of golf’s legends play this weekend at the PNC Father/Son Challenge. I’d pay to watch Jack Nicklaus put his socks on, no less play golf. But, that’s another man crush story. I even got to play nine holes with my two sons this weekend (beat em both) and watched as Lanny and Tucker Wadkins beat the Loves, the Funks and the Nelsons in a playoff with a monster eagle on the first playoff hole. Nice putt Tucker.

Some of this year end stuff seems a bit crazy and you wonder why some of these millionaire golfers play at this time of year. Well here is one good reason. Lee Westwood is a well traveled golfer and playing in the Thailand Golf Championship which is part of the Open Qualifying Series paid off for him. His T2 finish got him a berth in next year’s Open Championship. It will be his 22nd consecutive start at the oldest major. Nice going Lee.

The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive ran a wonderful feature this past week with Geoff Shackelford and Matt Ginella hosting “Architecture Week.” Shack is their resident architecture expert and he did a fine job explaining the many aspects of golf course architecture. Click here for Tom Doak’s “reversible” course. Click here for their Architecture Awards. Good stuff, good stuff.
