Tournament of Champions Kicks Off Real ’16 Season

Many voices in the world of golf say the professional golf season starts at The Masters. The PGA Tour (contrary to the calendar) says it starts in October. But for most golfers and fans it starts with the first tournament of the season and that is this week’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Recently this tournament has taken a hit with many of the world’s top PGA Tour winners taking a pass on the lovely Plantation Course to extend their winter holiday. But not this year. spieth day 2

World number one Jordan Spieth and number two Jason Day will renew their season ending battle as six of the top ten golfers in the world will enjoy the sun and fun in Hawaii.

Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed will be joining Spieth and Day in a jammed pack field of good golfers where only two of the top ten made the trip last year.

Reed is the defending champion and with so many big names on such a thrilling layout it has to qualify as must watch golf.

The Golf Channel and NBC will carry it in prime time from Thursday through its Sunday finish. The NFL playoffs may give the Saturday airing some competition as they are kicking off at 8:15 but that’s a case for the “Multiple TV Strategy.”

It’s always fun to see the pros back on the course in a tournament that really matters and not one of those silly season money grabs. And the views of paradise from Hawaii alone are worth tuning in for.

Spieth, Day, Rickie headline but G-Mac is back as well as Davis Love, Rosey and Paddy and there are plenty of new and young faces making their first trip to the Tournament of Champions. Click here for capsules of each player.
