“The Real Thing”…Coke Signs Jordan Spieth

Since Jordan Spieth came on the seen as a sixteen year high schooler playing in the Byron Nelson Championship many in the golf world knew he was something special.

And he has surpassed all the expectations from the time he first won in a playoff at the 2013 John Deere all the way through his Grand Slam Chase to last week’s trouncing of the field at The Tournament of Champions.

Spieth is special both on the course and off. He displays an amazing maturity for such a young man and portrays an image that appeals to everyone both golfers and non-golfers alike.spieth coke machine

He’s quickly becoming one of the most recognizable faces in sport and as we all know by now he’s the face of golf in America.

All that leads to an opportunity for Spieth to earn a few dollars from any number of sponsors. Spieth recently supplanted Tiger Woods as the biggest money maker in golf (see post below) and now he’s signed another significant deal with Coca-Cola.

Darren Rovell reports that Coke has signed the likable Spieth to a multi-year sponsorship deal to promote Coke and its Dasani water brand.

Supposedly the deal is on the same level that Lebron James and Taylor Swift have and we are talking major, major dollars.

Spieth is a good pitchman. Even before the deal was announced he was promoting Coke. After he won the Tournament of Champions there was a can of Coke sitting on the table next to him at his post tournament press conference. It struck me as strange because I had never seen that before but now it makes sense.

Another lifetime ago when I was a beer salesman and part of the job was to sit at bars and glad hand all those potential beer drinkers one trick was to set your beer with the label facing out toward the door so the first thing anyone saw was your brand.

Spieth was doing just that…promoting his brand like a good salesman should.

Spieth has been fairly selective with his major sponsors and Under Armor was smart to lock him up for another ten years…and that was before he went on his Grand Slam Chase.

He has deals with AT&T, Titleist, Rolex, NetJets, Super Stroke and Perfect Sense Digital which manages his website. Click here for the inside dope on his Perfect Sense deal and you’ll get a feel for the kind of man Spieth is.

Spieth has quickly grown into one of the most likable faces in sports and the affable Texan will have his pick of sponsorships for years to come.
