Bubba Watson Wins 2nd Northern Trust Open

Bubba Watson says he’s “not big on change” and we have heard Bubba whine a bit over the years about courses andbubba nto 18 course changes he didn’t like.  He usually talks himself out of competing on those courses but good old Riviera Country Club hasn’t changed much over the years.  And that suits Bubba just fine.

There were plenty of doubters with Bubba taking a one shot lead into the final round.  Bubba hadn’t fared too well with 54 hole leads managing to win only twice in nine previous situations.  But today was different as Bubba fought history, himself and the field to earn his second Northern Trust Open title and ninth PGA Tour victory. And let’s remember that the last time Bubba won this he went on to win his second green green jacket at The Masters.

Bubba had lost his lead but showed some mental toughness as he battled back with a birdie on sixteen to tie Jason Kokrak for the lead.  On the seventeenth after a 334 yard drive and a 256 approach to the green, Bubba made it look easy with a two putt birdie to get back in the lead.  Call it classic Bubba Golf.

A routine par on eighteen gave Bubba the win and all that was left was for the tears to start.  And Bubba didn’t disappoint.

And to add to Bubba’s newfound mental toughness is the fact that he went on to win after passing a kidney stone on Monday. Yowser!
