When Lexi Thompson turned professional the folks at Cobra/Puma jumped on her to endorse their products and be their female face of golf. They saw the huge potential in the teenager that drove it as long as the boys. And Thompson has lived up to their expectations and more.
The 21 year old Thompson continued to impress with a dominating victory at the Honda LPGA Thailand for her seventh LPGA title and third in just seven months.
Thompson cruised to a six stroke win as her final round 68 got her to an impressive 20 under par. She smoked the field as 2016 U.S Open Champion In Gee Chun couldn’t keep pace and finished alone in second place.
The long hitting Thompson’s trademark has been monster drives that could just as well be struck by some PGA Tour players. She averaged over 289 yards this week and was amazingly accurate with her big stick hitting over 78 per cent of her fairways. Putting usually is her downfall but she was solid all week and if she can find a consistent putter she’ll be unstoppable.
With this win she overtakes Stacy Lewis as the third ranked golfer in the Rolex World Rankings and becomes the top female American golfer.
With performances like this it won’t be long before Thompson challenges Lydia Ko for the top spot in the world.
