Jenny Shin Breaks Through for First LPGA Win

It may have taken longer than she had wanted but Jenny Shin finally captured her first LPGA win at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout. Shin, 23 first turned pro in 2010 and started on the LPGA in 2011 was able to finally earn her win in her 133rd start.

She’s another of the North Koreans that have been dominating the LPGA recently but Shin’s story has a different twist. She started playing golf at nine and her parents decided to move to the United States after they realized her talent at golf and that it would be easier and less expensive to have their daughter raised in the states. She attended high school in California.

Shin shot a 4 under 67 to overtake third round leader American Gerina Pillar. Piller, playing just twenty miles from her home and in front of many family and friends couldn’t find her game and struggled to a 2 over 72.
