Casey Martin & His Oregon Ducks are National Champions

I absolutely loved watching the NCAA Division 1 Championships this week, both the men and the women. That match play format just screams drama and suspense.martin

And dramatic it was as Oregon and Texas went to extra holes before Sulman Raza a home grown Duck topped Taylor Funk (Fred’s boy) in 21 holes to give Oregon its first NCAA golf championship.

Oregon coach, Casey Martin has to be living the dream. He grew up on the Eugene Country Club golf course and still lives there today. For a hometown boy to bring his team a championship on his own course is a fantasy few men will ever experience.

But then Martin’s life has been anything but a fantasy. He was born with a circulatory defect that keeps his right leg from getting the proper circulation. He sued the PGA Tour for the right to use a golf cart and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court…and he won.

He is in pain every day and will need to have the leg amputated at some time but true to Martin’s uncompromising spirit he’s made lemonade out of lemons.

Beth Ann Nichols gives us the lowdown on Martin and his Ducks in Golfweek.

Martin is an interesting guy (Click here:’10 Golf Digest) who was forced to lead a life few of us could manage.

He had his first share of the spotlight with his court case but now he’s rejoicing in the spotlight as his Oregon Ducks reign as National Champions.

And that’s one hell of a good story.
