Great News: Jordan Spieth Commits to Playing Faster

This just in: Jordan Spieth has finally recognized he needs to play faster. spieth wgc

Maybe he read my piece where I called him out for his slow play. Maybe caddie Michael Greller gave him the word that he’s as slow as Ben Crane, just better. Maybe spending some time with quick draw Rickie Fowler during SB2016 got him thinking. Maybe he finally heard his fellow pros sighing each time he backs off or grabs that towel or has a 2,000 word dissertation with Greller in the fairway.

Whatever it was and reports have it being a gentle nudge from his coach, Cameron McCormick I say Hallelujah!

Spieth spent time treading water today at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational with a scrambling 71 to stay in a tie for sixth place three strokes behind Jason Day. But for me and I am sure I am not alone his acknowledgment of his need to speed things up was the highlight of the day.

He was asked if he noticed he was playing slower and slower and he responded, “I noticed and I’d get plenty of comments on it from other people, hit the ball, you’re taking forever, it’s too boring. You’d hear it from even the crowd sometimes. You hear everything, though.”

And then his coach thought speeding it up would help, “But Cameron also mentioned, hey, I think you’re going to play better if you just step up and swing. So I’m trying to do a bit of that.”

Great idea…step up and hit it! That’s the best news of the week.
