Arnold Palmer, “The King” Dies at 87

It’s darn near impossible to put into words what Arnold Palmer meant to golf. He’s the reason there is world wide tours and billions spent on golf. He’s the reason for the big money purses and the international popularity of the game. He’s the reason we can watch golf all year long and he’s the reason golf has grown into a major sports business. And yes, he’s the reason we can drink an “Arnold Palmer” and certainly he’s the reason there’s a Golf Channel.

But what is more amazing is what golf meant to Arnold Palmer. It was everything.

He loved the game and the competition and everything about it. But more than anything he loved the friendships and the camaraderie.

The King was a man’s man and a golfer’s golfer. He was an American hero until the day he died.

There isn’t a man, living or dead that did more for golf and the modern game.

Golf was is life. And he lived it well.

There will never be another like him.  He’ll be missed.
