Matsuyama Takes Hero World Challenge

The boys at NBC and The Golf Channel were hoping for a charge from Tiger Woods today at the Hero World Challenge but it was not to be. Woods was too far back to make it interesting and he had the poorest round of his comeback week.

Hideki Matsuyama was the man instead as he continued his superb recent play and topped this elite field of golfers. Matsuyama finished his week with a one over 73 but that was enough for a two shot win over the Champion Golfer of the Year, Henrik Stenson.hideki-hero

I still call this a “silly season” event but Matsuyama’s million dollar winner’s check is anything but silly.

He is riding a hot streak with four wins in his last five worldwide starts. He won at the Japan Open, second at the CIMB Classic, won the WGC HSBC Champions and first at the Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheyo Masters before his win today. Throw in his ’16 PGA Tour win at the Waste Management Open and you have a career for many golfers.

He’s been playing well on the PGA Tour for the past few years and he’s only going to get better as he’s become a much better putter shaving a stroke and a half off his scores in the past year.

He’s becoming one of the Big Boys on the tour.
