Swafford Closes Fast to Win CareerBuilder Challenge

With half a dozen players bunched at the top of the leaderboard of the CareerBuilder Challenge it looked like extra holes would keep some players from watching the NFL Playoffs.hud

But Hudson Swafford is a big fan of the Atlanta Falcons and he wasn’t ready to miss his team try to get to their second Super Bowl.

Swafford called a blitz coming down the stretch and he birdied three of his last four holes to pull ahead and eek out a one shot win over Adam Hadwin.

Swafford’s win is his first on the PGA Tour since joining the tour in 2014. This was his 93rd Tour start and he’s made 19 consecutive cuts on tour. The University of Georgia grad loves his Bulldogs and Falcons.

Watching the Falcons manhandle the Packers had to be the icing on his cake.

Notes: A very impressive week for Adam Hadwin with his 13 under 59 and best ever second place finish on tour…not bad for a rookie and a kid from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. You gotta love that.

Phil Mickelson was busy all week playing golf and “hosting” as he is the Tournament Ambassador. Considering he had two hernia surgeries and has been practicing for only two weeks he played fairly well.

Speaking of surgery, Jim “Bones” Mackey, Phil’s bag toter had double knee replacement in the off season. Wow, that has to be tough and it showed as Bones has a good limp going.

The boys at the Rochester District Golf Association have to be happy this week as one of their own, Dominic Bozzelli, a Rochester native did himself proud with a fifth place finish.
