Marco Dawson Takes Down Bernhard and Monty at The Senior Open Championship

dawson

There was no letdown in the golf world this week as all the major tours provided interesting and exciting tournaments and winners. First up may be the most inspiring and heartwarming of all the winners. At the Senior Open Championship at historic Sunnydale Golf Club in Berkshire, England Marco Dawson took on two giants of the Senior Tour and came out the winner. Dawson could be called the journeyman’s journeyman. He had a less than stellar PGA Tour career where he… Continue Reading

Donald Trump’s Courses Not Worth What He Says

trump swing

There are plenty of golfers that like to tell a tale at the 19th hole. That two footer to win that five dollars off their buddy grows to a slippery, downhiller of greater length with each retelling. But few golfers have a pair of brass ones like Donald Trump. Trump is at it again and it seems to be non-stop BS from the king of hyperbole. While The Donald continues to put his rather large foot into his even larger… Continue Reading

Zach Johnson Wins Open on a Wild Day at St. Andrews

johnson kiss

In  2010 Louis Oosthuizen won the Open at St. Andrews in a runaway.  This year the leaderboard was packed with many solid golfers hoping to write their own amazing story at the Home of Golf and a runaway wasn’t in the realm of possibilities. The story all week was Jordan Spieth’s run at the Grand Slam and little was heard about Zach Johnson who clawed his way into the lead with a clutch birdie at eighteen.  It wasn’t Jordan’s day…it… Continue Reading

spieth open championship thumb

The final round of the 144th Open Championship is primed for an historic finish.  Sunday’s third round was worthy of a final round with many players challenging for the lead. A Monday finish for The Open isn’t ideal but if there had to be an extra day the players certainly did their best to provide a final round worth watching.  This is only the second time in its long run that The Open has closed on Monday and it is… Continue Reading

“Nae Wind, Nae Rain” Great Golf at St. Andrews

144 open

Sunday at the Open Championship couldn’t have offered us a better day, except for one small thing. It was only the third round. The Old Course was so very gettable and it seemed that everyone was able to get more than their share of birdies and an exciting final it would have been. But with the weather delays we are headed for a Monday finish. Oh, if it can only live up to today. Almost everyone was able to get… Continue Reading

tom watson bridge

Tom Watson said goodbye to one of the loves of his life today as the 65 year old said farewell to St. Andrews and the Open Championship. Watson waved to fans from the Swilcan Bridge just as former greats Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus had in their send offs from The Open. On a very long day that started with a three hour rain delay Watson was determined to say his goodbyes today. Certainly he would have preferred a late… Continue Reading

Sneak Peek: St. Andrews Old Course No.17 & No.18

144th open

The closing two holes at St. Andrews are two of the most famous in all of golf. The instantly recognizable Road Hole is often called the toughest hole in championship golf. At 495 yards it’s a man size hole with man size challenges. An intimidating blind tee shot of hitting over the faux coal sheds is followed by a demanding approach to a small, tricky green guarded by the newly expanded Road Hole Bunker. And don’t forget the “road” and… Continue Reading
