dj smile trophy

If you’re new to our course, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! After back to back controversial U.S. Opens the USGA should probably get down on their collective knees and thank the golf gods. Maybe they could sacrifice a few blue blazers and some neckties while they are at it. Because when all was said and done they got lucky, very lucky. Last year at Chambers Bay they withstood criticism about the course and its… Continue Reading

Rory McIlroy Says No to Olympics

rory fist

Add Rory McIroy to the growing list of players that will take a pass on the Olympics. McIlroy decided the risk of the Zika virus was just too much chance. “After speaking with those closest to me, I’ve come to realize that my health and my family’s health comes before anything else. “Even though the risk of infection from the Zika virus is considered low, it is a risk nonetheless and a risk I am unwilling to take. “I trust… Continue Reading

The Grand Slam Lives…at Links Life Golf

U.S. Open - Final Round

What a wild week at the U.S. Open. Dustin Johnson’s win will be remembered for him not only battling the mighty Oakmont course but also having to beat a pair of bureaucrats trying to get in his head on the twelfth tee. As it was, DJ wasn’t the only winner at Oakmont. And the Grand Slam Chase is alive and well, at least for the Links Life Golf Crew. Lil Skins was the big winner this week at The Open… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think & More… U.S. Open Style

us open 18 flag

So much great stuff happened at the U.S. Open, its a sin that on Sunday so much of the rhetoric was focused on the USGA’s poor handling of the rules issue. They blew it plain and simple. Dustin Johnson won in an heroic fashion and let’s hope the Open is remembered for that. Here’s some ramblings on what I liked and disliked about the week at Oakmont. 1. The Oakmont course itself is very impressive. Walking those challenging holes and… Continue Reading

Mike Davis: “The USGA Wants a Mulligan”

mike davis

Amid all the controversy and backlash about the Dustin Johnson rules kerfuffle Mike Davis, the Executive Director/CEO of the USGA has made a request: The USGA wants a mulligan. Ironic isn’t it. The USGA released a statement earlier in the day, standing by the rules decision, that Johnson caused the ball to move but apologizing for the distraction they caused on the twelfth tee. Later, Davis was a call in quest on the Golf Channel’s Golf Central. Consider this calling… Continue Reading

Welcome to Bushwood

bushwood

As the grand poobahs of the USGA Rules Committee were trying to hijack the U.S. Open Championship on Sunday I was half expecting an appearance by Judge Smails to add even more comic insult to a bizarre turn of events during the competition. Many golf fans had expected Dustin Johnson to, at some point in the final round, “step on his Johnson” but his step was true while the USGA trampled all over it’s own member in questioning the ruling… Continue Reading

Sit down and take some time to read some of these pieces as the sports world reacts to Dustin Johnson’s breakthrough win at the U.S. Open and how the USGA screwed it up. Great stuff…really great stuff. Mike Purkey of Global Golf Post calls DJ “uncomplicated” but his win was anything but. And that with DJ’s great play down the stretch “justice was served.” Jaime Diaz at Golf Digest says After further Review, the USGA got real lucky Dustin Johnson… Continue Reading

Jordan Spieth Just Plays Too Slow

spieth greller open

Jordan Spieth’s week at Oakmont didn’t go as he would have liked. It started with the multiple rain delays on Thursday as Spieth had an early tee time. He was one of the players that had to deal with the start, stop, start, stop action on a day that tested players and fans alike. When the weather settled down and Spieth had his chance to defend his U.S. Open title his game didn’t respond. While many players were able to… Continue Reading

Mentally Strong Johnson Wins U.S. Open

U.S. Open - Final Round

Dustin Johnson started the final round of the 116th U.S. Open four shots back of the leader Shane Lowry. He faced a challenge he had never yet accomplished: winning a major championship. Lowry had started the day on a hot streak as he finished up his third round with two birdies over his last four holes. If Lowry had his druthers he may have wanted to keep playing right there instead of taking the seven hour break to come back… Continue Reading

Dustin Johnson Wins Botched U.S. Open

dj oakmont trophy

Sunday at the U.S. Open is one of the most special days of the golfing year. Especially at a revered venue like Oakmont the stage was set for a great finish. Dustin Johnson, Shane Lowry, Scott Piercy, Sergio Garcia and Branden Grace were trading blows, both birdies and bogeys throughout the day and then all hell broke loose. But it had nothing to do with any shot hit by any player. Rather, the USGA and its rules team decided that… Continue Reading
