Team USA Delivers an Amazing Victory at The Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup - Day Three

The American Solheim Cup Team pulled off an Brookline-like comeback today at the 2015 Solheim Cup to break the European Team’s hold on the cup. Faced with the almost insurmountable and memorable deficit of 10-6 the ladies of Team USA were in need of a Ben Crenshaw style miracle. Well, Juli Inkster isn’t Gentle Ben but she’ll go down in history as having as much faith in her troops as he did and that faith was well founded. Team USA… Continue Reading

A Love Story: Stacy Lewis & Arkansas

by Jeff Skinner The dream season on the LPGA Tour continued yesterday at the WalMart NW Arkansas Championship. Michelle Wie was the story early in the week with back to back 66’s but the week of celebration may have took its toll on the 2014 U.S. Open champion as she faded with a 73 and toppled down the leaderboard. But that left the stage open for a host of players to make a charge. And charge they did. Angela Stanford… Continue Reading

Michelle Wie: Hometown Girl, Hometown Win

by Jeff Skinner Michelle Wie has played the Ko-Olina golf course hundreds of time.  It’s her home course and she is their adopted daughter.  But yesterday’s round was definitely the most significant round she ever played on her favorite course.  In fact, it may be the most important round of her life. Wie shot an essentially perfect 67 in the final round of the LPGA Lotte Championship to earn her third LPGA title and continue her resurgence in 2014.  Winning… Continue Reading

American Studs Disappoint at Solheim Cup

by Jeff Skinner All week Captain Liselotte Nuemann had told her players, “Let’s make history.”  They were prophetic words as the Euros went out and white-washed the Americans for the first time on home soil.  It was the first ever win for the European team away from home and the first time ever they have defended the cup. It was a week many Americans will soon want to forget but with a devastating loss like this there comes responsibility.  Captain… Continue Reading

Ravings from the Easy Chair

by G. Rennie For television watching golf fanatics this weekend was a perfect storm of close competition.  Of the five tours that are covered on American TV four were decided in playoffs!  I can’t remember that ever occurring before and the overlapping coverage commitments of CBS and Golf Channel had TV execs scrambling to cover the most compelling action. First up was the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart links otherwise known as Phil’s Show. That loopy lefty gave away the… Continue Reading

It’s Crunch Time For The Solheim Cup

by Jeff Skinner As the LPGA swings north of the border for the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic the pressure is on to earn a coveted spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team. The team will be decided after the Women’s British Open and that leaves only three events left to earn points to qualify. This week’s tournament which takes place in Waterloo, Ontario may just be a “Waterloo” of sorts for those LPGA players struggling to make the team. Solheim… Continue Reading

LPGA Tour at the HSBC Womens’s Champions

by Jeff Skinner The LPGA Tour continues its Asian swing at the HSBC Women’s Champions this week. Angela Stanford is defending her 2012 title against a solid field.  But the HSBC took a hit today as world number nine Ai Miyazato withdrew due to whiplash. Miyazato suffered the injury in a five car pileup last week that involved a caravan of cars carrying LPGA players.  Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen were also involved and Creamer has withdrawn from the Pro-Am… Continue Reading

Upsets & Surprises at The Sybase Match Play Championship

by Jeff Skinner Every time a match play event rolls around we hear how the pros, the media and the fans love the excitement of head to head competition and that there should be more of it on the tours.  At the same time we hear that television will never approve of an increase in match play events because they are afraid all of their big draws will be out of the tournament too early.  The Sybase Match Play Championship… Continue Reading

LPGA Opens Home Tour at Founders Cup

by Jeff Skinner As Dorothy said as she clicked her heels in The Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.”  And that’s very true this week for the American women of the LPGA Tour as they open their domestic season in Phoenix at The RR Donnelley Founders Cup. After starting their season with three events in Australia, Thailand and Singapore the Americans are surely happy to give their passports a rest and start what could be a bellwether season… Continue Reading
