The FedEx Cup Playoffs Work

FECupPlayoffs_Prf_6c_Pos [Converted]

When the PGA Tour decided to revamp its schedule to try and institute their playoff system back in 2007 I wasn’t sold on their reasoning. The Tour had flourished over the last decades (thanks Tiger) and we had months and months of opportunities to watch the greatest golfers in the world. And while this “playoffs” mentality worked for the NFL I was doubting that it would work for golf. We had the best players in the world playing in all… Continue Reading

The PLAYERS Primed for a Crazy Finish

THE PLAYERS Championship - Round Two

The stage is set for a wild Sunday at The PLAYERS with a leaderboard so crowded it’s anyone’s guess who will claim this victory. Chris Kirk has a one shot lead over the most tightly packed leaderboard of the season. There are thirty players within five shots of the lead and plenty more right behind them. But this PLAYERS has a different look from previous years. Kirk, himself no household name leads a group of lesser known players with a… Continue Reading

wgc match play

Tomorrow marks a new era in the PGA Tour’s Match Play legacy when the WGC-Cadillac Match Play begins at Harding Park in San Frisco. After years of dealing with many big names losing early and therefore being left with some not so household names for the weekend the format has been restructured to insure that all players get at least three rounds of golf. The 64 golfers are broken down into sixteen different groups of four players. Each will play… Continue Reading

Day 2 Winners & Losers at The Masters

masters logo green

Winners Jordan Spieth is playing like he’s been at Augusta all his life. But he’s had only six rounds in competition. If the next two are anything like the first two the field is playing for second place. 64, 66 to open has never been done before and he looks so confident even a few burps won’t derail him. There is a great tournament going on at Augusta…for second place right now. Charley Hoffman, Dustin Johnson, Paul Casey and Phil… Continue Reading

Players, Not PGA Will Determine Love’s Fate

2016 United States Ryder Cup Team Captain Announced

It’s déjà vu all over again. The PGA of America officially announced that Davis Love III would captain the 2016 Ryder Cup Team in an attempt to regain the cup from the dominating European Team. If it feels like we have been here before it is because we have. Love came into the 2012 captaincy with all the optimism and confidence that every captain professes before the matches. Love was a successful captain crafting a 10-6 lead going into Sunday… Continue Reading

Phoenix Arizona is ground zero for any sports fan this week. The Super Bowl is the biggest needle mover in all of sports and this week is all about the Super Bowl, soft balls and all. But Phoenix is also home to the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Open, otherwise known as the NFL’s opening act. And it’s not a bad opening act at all. Tiger Woods comes off the bench and returns to the scene of one of the loudest… Continue Reading

Welcome to 2015: The Hyundai Tournament of Champions

Geoff Ogilvy tees off on the 18th hole.

For many of us this is the first day back to work in 2015. After a nice long holiday break away from our everyday jobs it’s time to get in our old routine and head back to work. It’s much the same on the PGA Tour. After their end of the year break the PGA Tour kicks off the New Year in style in Hawaii at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Even though the all powerful PGA Tour can declare… Continue Reading

Golfers and their Look-Alikes

maj predator

Golf news tends to be a little scarce this time of year. With the tours quiet and the pros settling down for their long  short winter naps we get a plethora of stories on the years best this and the seasons best that. Enough already.  The folks at Golf.com have broken the monotony of such lists with their Separated at Birth: Pro Golfers and Their Celebrity Look-Alikes slide show.  It’s funny and a bit harsh at times but well worth… Continue Reading

The PGA Tour…New Year’s in October

Walker

For many of us October ushers in a fall season full of falling leaves, pumpkin festivals and Oktoberfest. But that’s not the case for the PGA Tour. For Tim Finchem and the mighty and all powerful PGA Tour October isn’t a time when we are heading into the end of the year it is actually the start of a new year. Yes, as only The Great and Powerful Finch can do, he has brought New Year’s into October.  This week… Continue Reading
