Dustin Johnson Takes BMW Championship

dj-bmw

Dustin Johnson continued his stellar play yesterday at the BMW Championship and turned his three shot lead into his margin of victory for his third win of the season. He also may have positioned himself as the front runner for Player of the Year with a major (U.S. Open ) a WGC (Bridgestone) and now a FedEx Cup Playoff event. The tag line for BMW, the cars, is “The Ultimate Driving Machine.” And that may as well be Johnson’s nickname… Continue Reading

The long, hot summer of Jason Day continues. And while the summer has cooled off, Day hasn’t one bit. Day lapped the field today at the BMW Championship to finish with a six shot victory over Daniel Berger. Day’s lead was never really threatened as he maintained at least a four shot lead and finished with a flourish with birdies at sixteen and eighteen. The ’15 PGA Champion lead from wire to wire and earned his fourth win in his… Continue Reading

by Jeff Skinner 1.  That is what they call a great bounce-back. Billy Horschel was ripped by many for “choking” when he chunked his approach at the 18th in Boston last week. Well there was none of that this week as he rebounded to win the BMW Championship. He said he didn’t let things like that bother him and knew it was just one bad swing at the wrong time. Call it redemption, call it payback or call it karma.… Continue Reading

Phil Mickelson Quits at The BMW Championship

by Jeff Skinner This PGA Tour Playoff season just got a bit more controversial. In a very surprising move Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the BMW Championship. Mickelson didn’t cite any specific injury or illness for his early morning withdrawal but rather stated his need to focus on the Ryder Cup. “Without a chance to contend at the Tour Championship,” he said “the most important thing for me now is to prepare for the Ryder Cup.”  What? Ryder Cup in… Continue Reading

PGA Tour’s Biggest “Over/Under” Achievers

by Jeff Skinner As usual another Dustin Johnson win has ignited the “underachiever” debate once again.  The boys at The Golf Channel’s Golf Talk Central put together their candidates for not only underachievers but overachievers as well. Here is their lead in: Dustin Johnson, fresh off his WGC-HSBC victory, has eight career PGA Tour wins, including at least one in his first seven full seasons on Tour. But that’s not enough for everyone. Some believe Johnson, with his immense talent,… Continue Reading

Monday Morning Quarterback… Quick Six Points

by Jeff Skinner The delayed finish of the BMW Championship may be good news for Tiger Woods.  The two Monday finishes on the tour this year, The Farmers and the Arnold Palmer, were both won by Tiger. This Monday finish at the BMW does put a damper on the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.  But it does give the Tour just what it wanted when they designed this finish.  They won’t have to worry about going against the… Continue Reading
