Heroes & Zeroes at The PGA Championship

PGA: PGA Championship - Second Round

It was a wild day at the 97th PGA Championship with record scores, flying clubs and a storm so fierce it forced play to be halted and even took down many of the structures on site including the Golf Channel’s “Live From” set. So the second round will be completed early Saturday and then the third should get underway about thirty minutes later. There was plenty of excitement at Whistling Straits long before that nasty weather blew in. Heroes: First… Continue Reading

Paddy Harrington Survives to Win The Honda Classic

harrington

Padraig Harrington began the restart at today’s Honda Classic at two under par, five shots off the lead and seemingly out of contention. With so many good players between him and the lead his chances were slight at best. But that’s why they play the game and an amazing string of four straight birdies from 11-14 brought the three time major champion right into the mix. Of course Paddy doesn’t like to do things the easy way. He splashed his… Continue Reading

Monday Morning Shootout at The Honda Classic

poulter honda 2

This is the kind of finish the folks at The Honda Classic had hoped for. No, not a Monday morning closeout, but the exciting shootout that is about to take place. It’s like the shootout at the OK Corral, where the gunslingers were poised to take each other down. This is a packed leaderboard and thanks to what may be the worst shot of Ian Poulter’s career, the Honda Classic has boiled down to a Monday Morning Shootout. There’s plenty… Continue Reading

Bill Haas broke the tie with a birdie on the 16th hole and then hung on with two pars to close it out for his sixth PGA Tour win. Haas did challenge himself on eighteen… Continue Reading

Loved It & Hated It At The PGA Championship

by Jeff Skinner Loved it… Did you see Brandel Chamblee at the start of “Live From the PGA” after Bradley’s win?  He was so excited you would have thought he won his 1st major.  You got to love a man that loves his work. Hated it…Could CBS show anymore commercials?  It was like an advertising convention with a few golf shots thrown in.  I’m so full of Michelob Light and Cialis I can’t ride along with Lance Armstrong. Loved it…… Continue Reading

“The Final Four” Takes A Toll at The PGA Championship

by Jeff Skinner Major Championships are supposed to be the toughest test in golf.  The Atlantic Athletic Club has met that standard.  Traditionally the U.S. Open holds that distinction but due to the soft, new greens at Congressional this year’s Open fell short of the USGA’s rigid standard.  The difficulty level of the Atlanta Athletic Club has rivaled that of a normal U.S. Open setup. The re-design at Atlanta has plenty of critics (see Phil Mickelson) but whether you applaud… Continue Reading

Steele & Dufner Lead a Wide Open PGA Championship

by Jeff Skinner Take a look at the leaders of the PGA Championship. Chances are we could put Brendan Steele and Jason Dufner on America’s Most Wanted and no one would recognize them.  We could probably include Keegan Bradley, who’s in second place in the mix too and he wouldn’t get any bites. But if you are an avid golf fan and I emphasize avid, you’ll recognize Steele and Bradley as two of the rookies that have won on the… Continue Reading
