2017 Brings New Golf Deals

woods-balls

Ah, 2017 has arrived and with it a new golf season. Sorry PGA Tour, the calendar still dictates to me when a new year begins not the slew of fall tournaments that are (in)conveniently assigned to the next year…that doesn’t work for me. This new year brings with it not only the fresh hopes of every golfer both pro and amateur but there have been a ton of new equipment and endorsement deals among the big names in the game.… Continue Reading

Golf in the Olympics: I’m Done…for Now

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy speaks t

Let it be known that this will be my last piece with any mention of the Olympics, golf in the Olympics, players in the Olympics, players not in the Olympics, the Olympic Flame, the Olympic Rings, Olympic Paint…anything Olympic…at least until we crown the Champion Golfer of the Year. All this Olympic baloney is taking the focus away from the oldest and maybe the greatest major of them all. That being said I need to vent for a bit before… Continue Reading

lang

Another USGA championship and another controversy at the U.S. Women’s Open. This is getting old but first let’s talk about the winner. Brittany Lang came from two strokes back on a tough course to finish at six under and tie Anna Nordgvist and then eventually defeat her in a playoff. Third round leader Lydia Ko and Sung Hyun Park who had the lead at one time faded after they were put on the clock on the twelfth hole and left… Continue Reading

Team USA Delivers an Amazing Victory at The Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup - Day Three

The American Solheim Cup Team pulled off an Brookline-like comeback today at the 2015 Solheim Cup to break the European Team’s hold on the cup. Faced with the almost insurmountable and memorable deficit of 10-6 the ladies of Team USA were in need of a Ben Crenshaw style miracle. Well, Juli Inkster isn’t Gentle Ben but she’ll go down in history as having as much faith in her troops as he did and that faith was well founded. Team USA… Continue Reading

American Studs Disappoint at Solheim Cup

by Jeff Skinner All week Captain Liselotte Nuemann had told her players, “Let’s make history.”  They were prophetic words as the Euros went out and white-washed the Americans for the first time on home soil.  It was the first ever win for the European team away from home and the first time ever they have defended the cup. It was a week many Americans will soon want to forget but with a devastating loss like this there comes responsibility.  Captain… Continue Reading

It’s Crunch Time For The Solheim Cup

by Jeff Skinner As the LPGA swings north of the border for the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic the pressure is on to earn a coveted spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team. The team will be decided after the Women’s British Open and that leaves only three events left to earn points to qualify. This week’s tournament which takes place in Waterloo, Ontario may just be a “Waterloo” of sorts for those LPGA players struggling to make the team. Solheim… Continue Reading

The plan is to hit a PGA, LPGA or USGA event each week of this month and maybe get a few rounds in for myself. The expedition got off to a great start this past Wednesday as a few pals and I took… Continue Reading

10 Things I Think

by Jeff Skinner 1.  Yea, Rory Sabbatini had an ace on Sunday but earlier in the week the Sabbatini family had another big day.  “Earlier in the week at Operation Shower, Sabbatini’s wife Amy surprised four military moms-to-be expecting twins whose spouses are deployed members of the U.S. Navy, Naval Submarine School and Connecticut Army National Guard by announcing that she would cover airfare for the moms-to-be to fly their moms in for the birth of the babies.”  Rory may… Continue Reading
